Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League finally revealed its gameplay at PlayStation's State of Play, but it isn't going down well. Arkham's rhythmic revolutionary beat-em-up combat has been ditched in favour of generic shooting mechanics complete with oodles of percentage-laden loot, drawing comparisons to Gotham Knights, Marvel's Avengers, and even Crackdown 3.
Using the 'Return YouTube Dislike' addon, you can see that the trailer has 2,000 likes compared to 5.2 thousand dislikes, and that disparity can also be seen on IGN's upload of the same trailer, with 4.6 thousand likes to 6.2 thousand dislikes. Take one glance at the subreddit and Twitter, and those dislikes are manifesting in exhaustion and disappointment.

The generic gunplay is one of the key problems people have, given that it means King Shark uses a minigun (rather than being a beefy melee bruiser) and Captain Boomerang, known for… boomerangs, is using *checks notes* guns! Not boomerangs.
We get to see Boomeraag's gun, a sniper, which deals 5019-5331 damage per hit (good luck figuring out what that means), has 283 percent critical hit damage (big number!) and "+50 percent damage to Crazed enemies". All of this amounts to a Gear Score, documented in the same UI that confirms the existence of an in-game Battle Pass and store.
While loot that's colour-coded and filled with red and green numbers to flip the serotonin switch is getting criticised, so is the movement. Everyone can fly. King Shark? Flies. Boomerang? You know it. Even Harley Quinn does thanks to an overhead drone, which is a similar complaint we saw with Gotham Knights, particularly Red Hood who used the souls of the damned to leapfrog through Gotham.
While there's a lot of negativity flooding out from the new trailer, there are those still excited to give it a try, citing its beautiful visuals and continuation of the Arkhamverese – but even amidst the hype, there's worry about the fact that you have to be online to play, even in single-player.
So, to recap – always online, convoluted modern gear system, battle pass and in-game store, every hero flies, and Crackdown-esque shooting. Suicide Squad isn't shaping up to what a lot of people expected, but maybe it'll fair better than Avengers and Gotham Knights. We'll have to wait and see.
