Photo mode is a beloved feature which lets you capture the thrill of an in-game moment. The feature has evolved over the years to allow players to customise and edit their desired image to fit what they have in mind. You can choose the time of day, weather, special effects, and even the pose your character will take. This feature is beloved by all, and is a welcome addition to any video game – except Disco Elysium it seems.
The game recently added its own version of photo mode, called Collage Mode. Unlike traditional photo modes, this one takes advantage of Disco Elysium's top down perspective and unique art style to let you use any asset from the game to create a vibrant canvas. "Introducing Collage Mode: the new functionality that gives you the creative freedom to stage just about anything in-game," Tweeted the Disco Elysium Twitter handle. The feature will come to consoles at a later date.

Unlike most other photo modes, many fans aren't really too fond of this one, as they feel it goes against the message of the original developers. In a 2021 interview, Disco Elysium writer and narrative designer Justin Keenan answered the question, "Why can't we kiss Kim?" He said, "Because the thing about desire is that it's stronger when it's not totally satisfied." Despite this, the update lets Harry and Kim smooch whenever they want, seemingly contradicting this decision from the original devs.
To make matters worse, this comes as ZA/UM is embroiled in a controversial legal case, after key developers were made to leave the studio. The Collage Mode gives you the ability to use any characters you want, and even put them in whatever position you want – including kissing. Fans felt that this could be a possible dig toward the original devs who have now been pushed out.
As a tease for this feature Disco Elysium shared an image of Harry and Kim kissing on Valentine's Day last month. Fans received that image pretty well, as it fed on some of the fan-fiction of the two being more than just partners. To be clear, they didn't hate the fact that they could possibly kiss, but the fact that it goes against the message that the devs wanted to share from a narrative perspective.
