That sounds like it’d make the game a lot harder than it already is, but what if we then simplified the game further by limiting movement to a hexagonal grid and also gave each character two moves instead of four? And let’s say we got rid of the laning and farming and just kept the teamfights. Then you’d probably get something like Spellcraft, the new game coming from One More Game.
Spellcraft is being called a “real-time battler,” which is a new genre that combines elements of MOBAs and tactical strategy games into one slick package. Two players form teams of three characters each and then unleash them in brutal combat. The first team to win four rounds wins the game, with each round being a fast and furious affair with spells flying and characters respawning until they run out of lives. The winner is whoever gets a team wipe first or gets the most kills.

where each character has unique stats and abilities that can be customized between matches. The game features a variety of characters, such as a sci-fi robot, an old-timey car that can transform into a robot, fantasy knights and mages, and even a literal bear. Players can use basic moves assigned to A, S, and D keys, and super moves mapped to Q, W, and E keys. Players control movement and targeting with simple mouse clicks.
“We’ve been running private playtests with real players throughout the course of Spellcraft’s development, and the version of the game that we’re playing today is something we’re very proud — and a little anxious! — to finally put in front of the world,” said Jamie Winsor, COO and co-founder of One More Game. “We can’t wait to hear what you think.”
There’s a lot of talent behind Spellcraft, with devs hailing from the likes of StarCraft, Diablo, Guild Wars, League of Legends, Warcraft, and Magic: Arena.
